I took a trip to Leh-Ladakh two years back. I did a lot of fun there.

I spoke to strangers over small-small things and loved doing it, got high on the beauty of Mother Nature, gave up tweeting for bird watching and much more. These are just some of the many splendid things I experienced.

I, Nitin Khanna would suggest you to visit Leh Ladakh at least once in your lifetime. I learned a lot of things from this trip, which I would like to share with you, as this would be helpful for all of you, while travelling to Leh Ladakh.

1. Water
Since, dehydration can complicate health issues at a high altitude, so make sure that you are carrying liters of water with you and drinking it at steady intervals.

2. Sunscreen Lotion.
Even during the winter, UV rays at high altitude can harm your skin, so don’t forget to carry a good quality sunscreen lotion and apply it properly before going out in the sun.

3. UV Sunglasses
As mentioned above, UV rays at high altitude can be more damaging; it can damage your eyes as well. UV shades is a must-have thing while travelling early in the season and during winters.

4. Lip Balm
During winter in Ladakh, your lips may get cracked, which can get painful. So, make sure that you carry a lip balm or Vaseline along with you.

5. Mustard Oil
Mustard oil is basically used to moisturize skin. The oil can be used inside of nostrils and on hair as well.

6. Medicines
You must carry medicines for headache, cold & cough, stomach ache and fever.

7. Glucose
Carrying Glucose water is a good idea, as it provides instant energy. Carry a couple of small packs with you, so that you can instantly mix it in the water.

8. Clothes
It is best to dress in layers because dressing in layers will allow you to add or subtract layers when needed. So, carry a sweater, cap, gloves & warm inner and if possible, carry water resistant jacket too.

9. Documents and IDs
Carry one identity card and a few photocopies of it, as it is needed at certain places like check post and hotels to register necessary details. Moreover, carry your medical insurance card, photocopies of your flight ticket and a list of important contacts.

10. Chargers for all the gadgets, cameras and mobile
  • Spare camera batteries In cold environment, batteries die too quickly. So, carry at least one spare set of batteries for your camera.
  • Car charger or battery bank : If you are a keen smart phone user and planning to log your route on your GPS app, then make sure you are carrying car charger or power bank to keep your mobile running.
  • Memory cards to last entire trip : Carry enough memory cards with you to cover your entire shooting duration in Ladakh.
11. Money
While my recommendation would be to carry enough cash you need, to avoid time wastage in withdrawing cash. But, it may not be feasible for everyone. Keep in mind that ATMs beyond Srinagar and Manali are only available in Kargil and Leh and they too are a few with long queues in front of them.

So, these are some basic tips that will help you while travelling to Leh Ladakh. Hope this will help you a lot!
